I wrote this to try and understand my personal philosophy better. I hope you will find it valuable in forming your own philosophy. I believe everyone should have their own philosophy, one that is personalized to suit their needs. Picking up your philosophy as you go is a great way to become a bitter person later in life. As time runs out, reality rushes in.
The personal need that drove me to create this philosophy was the need to accomplish something great. No ordinary philosophy would suit my needs. I would halve to create one from scratch. While researching the philosophy of others, I eventually came to the conclusion that to do something truly great, it must benefit us all. If only one person benefits from a particular philosophy, then there are about 5 billion people who do not. My philosophy is meant to benefit the entire world. Not just the world, but life itself.
All the ideas here are my own, which means they are everyone's. An idea is only as good as those that can benefit directly from it. These discoveries were accomplished through meditation, prayer, and years of research on a variety of subjects.
I do not wish to receive personal credit. Discoveries should not benefit the discoverer, they should benefit us all. A tool should not only benefit the maker, a tool should benefit all of humanity. If you wish to spread these ideas, or share them with others, I encourage you to do so. But please don't use my name. Give credit to anonymous. Because no individual is as important as every individual.
If you wish to alter this text in any way, I encourage you to do so. There is no text that is sacred. Every idea can be improved with time and interpretation. There is no original idea. Every idea is built with the foundation of every idea that has come before, and shaped by the minds that seek to understand it.
While reading this you may feel psychological pain. That does not mean you should not finish reading it. Put it down and take a break. Come back to it when you are ready. It will always be here.
Theme:
Human Potential
Human potential is the best options a person has to benefit the world.
Many see human potential as a personal goal. Personal potential. What am I personally capable of? This way of thought gives people ambitions that are mutually exclusive and impossible to reconcile with the ambitions of others. Keep in mind that there are a limited amount of resources at any given time.
We can't all be rich. For some to be rich, there must be others that are poor. So that some can have more than enough, there must be others that starve.
We can't all be famous. For some to have attention focused on them, the focus must come from everyone else.
We can't all be masters. For some to be masters, there must also be slaves.
People tend to blame greed for this predicament. I think there is a better explanation. There is, current in our society, a motivation to maintain and enhance favorable views of oneself. A placing of oneself at the center of his or her world. An excessive love of one's person that leads to unsustainable levels of vanity and selfishness.
It's almost as if we as a society have never grown up. Somehow, by having all our needs met, we've come to the conclusion that our wants are our needs and that our desires must also be met to survive. That it is automatically a good idea to try and obtain everything that we want without thinking. We are a society of spoiled brats.
Alternatively, Mature thinking follows that "we" are more important than "me". If I'm focused on me, I can't be focused on us, but if I am focused on us, I am also included in that focus. Doing what's best for "us" is a way to benefit myself without compromising the other.
Another problem with seeing human potential as chiefly personal is that there is no end to a person's individual potential. If your goal in life is to have money, how much is enough? If your goal is power, how much is enough? If your goal is love, if your goal is knowledge, if your goal is inner peace, if your goal is stuff, How much is enough? Where does it end?
"My goal is raising a family."
That's a good goal. It takes the emphasis off yourself. But how many people have a stated goal, an explicit goal, when their true goal is safety and comfort.
"I want to be safe and comfortable so I can raise my family."
How safe do you want to be? How comfortable do you want to be?
Is there such a thing as absolute safety? Absolute comfort?
Safety is the illusion of safety. The truth is, we could die suddenly at any time.
Experiencing comfort primes the mind to expect comfort. That which is a comfort one day, is a necessity the next.
There is no clear end to personal ambition. It ends with unlimited power by one individual. Unlimited personal ambition leads to concentration of power in those that already have power. It's as if society is a giant pyramid scheme, but one that hasn't been thought through to the end.
The people in charge that started civilization, (long dead), had the power to organize society along lines that benefited chiefly themselves, others like them and their children.
This is the class based society.
If you are born into power: lucky you!
If you are born without power: believe in reincarnation!
The newly moneyed masses saw the value of being included in such a scheme and fought for greater rights of participation. The pyramid of society started to wobble. The balance was gone. The ones in power then had to compromise to maintain their dominance.
Democracy was born.
Rule according to popular opinion.
Some opinions are more popular than others.
This doesn't mean they are more right.
Democracy takes a lot of thought into the field of psychology to work, (that is, produce the effect you want). The product of working to discover the psychological basis for opinions is a limited ability to influence opinions. The byproduct is commercialism: the manipulation of opinions for profit, the effect of which is concentration of power in those that have the ability to appeal to psychology.
Unless you have the money to support a huge marketing division, your ideas are little more than a shot in the dark. You have no idea if they're going to stick. This very manifesto is similar to a shot in the dark. I had no test audience to analyze the efficacy of the message. There are no fancy colors and pictures. No meaningless statistics. 5 out of 5 doctors don't agree with it. It isn't sold at "rock bottom prices!" or "One day only!". I'm working off pure faith that these ideas are good enough to spread. Before the internet, I wouldn't have believe it was possible. Now that information can be transported anywhere in the world without having to buy airtime and a charismatic host, it could be possible for an idea like this to spread to the entire world.
Back to the effects of commercialism...
It wasn't a conspiracy. It wasn't planned. No single person is at fault. It just sort of happened. Give people what they think they want and their wants are multiplied. Cut off one head and two grow from the stump. Result: commercialism can no longer keep up with reality. If you sold people the idea that the things they could buy were going to make their world better, and their world only got worse and worse. They will eventually stop buying your things and stop buying your message.
We were sold an ideal. A fantasy. A dream. We were expected to live an ideal. A fantasy. A dream. It turned out to be false. Now people are disillusioned. The commercial system is about to fail. The democratic system is about to fail. Life on Earth is about to fail. You can campaign on hope and change all you want, but if the reality is nothing changes than what the people will suffer from is no hope. Without hope it is impossible to survive.
The time is now ripe for this idea. It could not have come before now.
Again the pyramid was on the verge of collapse. We spent up the future. We exploited the past. Our immortal souls were filled with woe. "Who will save us from the debts that we owe!"
On a pale horse and carrying a scale, one said, "Sit down children! Let me tell you a tale. All this time you were digging a hole. But at last I will tell you the ultimate goal!
"With good intentions the road was paved. You've given in to evil, but now you are saved. You think this scale is only for show? Weigh your choices and then you will know."
One separated the ideas that were good from the bad. One said, "Cheer up children! You don't need to be sad. I did take away a lot of your things, but just look at your backs and you'll see you have wings!"
An activity without a clear end is without a goal. An activity without a goal is meaningless. Meaningless activity is the backbone of a commercial society. The meaningless activity caused by commercialism leads to value relativism. If the beast has a billion heads, which head do you fight? With a billion choices, you might think that the majority are good enough, (or at least neutral). But the vast majority of choices possible in a commercial society are self-serving and therefore wrong. You share the Earth with everyone. It's time to act like those others exist.
"Communist!"
No, I'm not a communist. I don't argue for collective ownership. I argue for a minimum and a maximum.
"Socialist!"
No. This philosophy is quite different, as you will see.
If you have nothing, you should at least get the minimum.
The minimum:
Air to breath
Food to eat
Water to drink
A bed for sleep
A structure and clothes for protection
A toilet for excretion
Everyone in the world should have at least that.
Workers should additionally have:
Freedom to move where they want.
Freedom to buy what they please without restrictions.
Freedom to do whatever they want in privacy.
Assuming they follow this rule:
"Allow others the same freedom you would like to have for yourself."
The only licenses required are those that anyone can easily obtain with the proper training. The training for licenses should be free of charge to anyone who wishes to make an attempt. This removes a block to knowledge put in place by those in power.
"Let's make a, (law degree, medical degree, business degree, etc.) prohibitively expensive to obtain. Then we can charge an outrageous amount of money for our services! After all, we have to pay back our loans, *wink* *wink*. Just kidding, my dad paid!"
Knowledge is power. Knowledge must be free to all to inoculate against the concentration of power.
Everyone must work. If one is disabled, a job suitable to the condition of the worker must be found. No loafing around waiting for a check from the government.
There are parasites at the top of society and parasites at the bottom of society. They're sucking us dry. Today, our laws and educational institutions are used to reinforce their hold on society. In the future, we will use our laws and educational institutions to dislodge them.
This plan calls for a world where every adult is exploited equally. Let every grown man and woman have a use and let them be used. No more treating damaged people like trash. Trash that must be fed, clothed, and sheltered without any benefit to the social body. Everyone can do something. Even a person without a brain can be made to fill some need, and therefore have a chance at fulfilling his or her promise to the world.
Raising children should be considered work. Those raising children should be regulated and paid.
"No one's going to tell me how to raise my kid!"
And no one should. But if you accept payment from society to raise a child, we have to know if you're doing your job. A TV is a poor substitute for a teacher. Every full time parent must also be a teacher.
No more begging for change. No more begging, period. If you refuse to work for society, you should be separated from society until you decide you can help. There's a lot to do to get this world ready for the next stage of human development. There's plenty of meaningful work for everyone.
If you commit a crime against the body of society, you should pay for it in hard or boring labor. If you are a criminal and refuse to work, or can't work due to poor behavior, you will be separated from society.
Who will decide whom is a criminal or non-worker that cannot be reformed and must be separated from the body to prevent further damage? There is no single judge suitable for such a task. Therefore let us all be the judge. Some type of internet poll should be arranged. We should let the people who care the most decide. If a single person wants to vote a hundred times. Let them take the time to do so. They obviously care a lot about the outcome.
Society will put the evidence for and against separation on the internet. We'll give the accused 5 minutes of video, and as much text as they need to prove their worth before the final determination is made. We'll allow a month for voting, during which the accused will be incarcerated. Their fate is is determined by the vote. Either free to work, or separation from society ranging in time from a week to permanent exile.
"You have 5 minutes to prove your worth."
"Five minutes? But I can't prove my worth in five minutes. When does this five minutes start?"
"It's already started."
"Already started!? Um. Um. Hello. Hello world. I want to lay under a bridge and drink all day, but apparently that's not enough. I give a lot to the alcohol industry. A great deal of money, actually. But apparently that isn't enough. I don't beg on the street. I only beg from my family, but everything I receive is a loan. I will eventually pay everyone back. I only owe... 7... no wait... 10... Never mind that. I admit I owe a lot. Hm. I heard they have plenty of alcohol in exile, but without a bridge to lie under it just wouldn't be the same."
"10 seconds."
"Oh! Oh no! I'm screwing it up! Mom! I love you and I'm sorry I'm such a waste. Goodbye."
Meaningless activity by an individual makes that individual useless to the world while engaged in that activity. We must stop useless activity if we are to progress. Anything you do, anything you buy, anything you say; none of it matters unless you are directly contributing to the goal.
(Of course, there will always be time for entertainment and diversion. That's why we have weekends. Everyone should have 2 days a week of their choosing to do whatever they like, and an additional month off, every year, for the same. Party as much as you like without restrictions on any chemical additions, but know that the party will end, and you will have to go back to work, or be separated from society.)
Life's dramatic purpose is the real human potential. A true promise for the future that isn't twisted to support endless addictive behavior for the benefit of a few hundred overlords.
"What is the purpose? What is the goal?"
I asked this same question 16 years ago, and I'm glad I did. If I hadn't, this manifesto would not exist. The goal of life, as I see it, is to organize our universe so that it favors life. The ultimate goal is an everlasting universe of everlasting life.
"Immortality?"
Not personal immortality. In truth, personal immortality runs counter to the goal and should never be sought. The goal is ultimate transcendence of the dangers that life faces across our universe. The goal is continuity of life. We must never make, by some future science, an individual man or woman that can live forever. Change is required at every step. A world full of immortals will not change their minds fast enough to respond to changes in reality.
"This sounds like a religion."
No. Religion deals with the meaning of life. I have a different set of principles dealing with the meaning, these are personal and quite meaningless to everyone who is not me. What I am concerned with today is the transcendence of life. How each one of us has an important and unique role to play in the creation of the new order. One based in reality and not hedonistic, self-serving fantasy.
I recognize that this thinking is not entirely unique. I recognize also that it could be related to many movements that strive for almost the same goal: a unity of the human species.
"There will never be world peace."
There must be world peace. We must always remember our differences, they are very important, but we must put much less emphasis on them. How one chooses to worship God, or whether or not one believes in God at all, are not important questions. The emphasis should be on the continuity of life. Peace leads to preservation of the infrastructure that makes life possible. Peace is attained by reducing the emphasis on personal differences.
"Down with the new world order!"
Because the old world order was so great, right? /sarcasm
"There can never be a single world government!"
I agree completely. There should never be a single team struggling to complete the goal of survival of the species. That would cause stasis. Stasis leads to death. Stasis must be avoided at all cost. As a society we must continue to change in relation to our understanding of the human condition. Not all changes are good, but not changing can be very bad for our continued survival.
Old Timer:
"I don't believe in computers. I'm sticking to what I know. Hand written notes."
*scribble scribble scribble*
Later...
Boss:
"What's this?"
Old Timer:
"It's the report you asked for."
Boss:
"In cursive?"
Old timer:
"I wanted it to be elegant and legible."
Boss:
"You've failed completely. I can't even read this."
Old Timer:
"Impossible. My calligraphy is perfect."
Boss:
"I can't read cursive. I don't know anyone who can."
Old Timer:
"I can. Let me read it to you."
Boss:
"I... I think I'm going to have to let you go."
Old Timer:
"But son, I'm your father."
Boss:
"That's what makes this so hard. Clear out your desk."
We must change with our constantly changing understanding of reality. We can't write in hieroglyphics if nobody can decipher them. We can't buy and sell people, even though the good old bible says it's kosher. Stoning is old fashioned and brutal. Even a hanging is old fashioned and brutal. We can't ride horses anymore because we don't want streets full of stinking horse shit. We can't have duels because it's a horrible waste of time and people. Someday we won't have physical wars for the same reason. We'll have to be content with killing each other in virtual space. I know its not the same, but that's the point. We change or we die.
The human potential as an external goal.
It isn't: What can I do to benefit myself?
It is: What can I do to benefit the world that will at the same time benefit myself by giving me a meaningful existence?
No one should want just any job that pays the bills. That thinking limits everybody. We must work for something. We must work for universal sustainability.
"This sounds like Environmentalism!"
Ha! Close, but no. Actually, this idea is almost completely contrary to the real goals of the Environmental movement. The goal of Environmentalism seems to be the preservation of the natural world. They seek a type of stasis where man and beast, man and tree, live in harmony with one another. If the world dies, we will die with it. This is unacceptable.
Environmentalists see people and development as destructive forces that will culminate in the utter annihilation of the natural balance of life. I say: The natural balance is already annihilated. We have annihilated it. Forget the natural world. There is no natural world. It's over. The little critters of nature had their chance to develop intelligence, and they've failed to develop it. We've gained by their failure. Sure, keep a reminder, but don't turn the world into a natural history museum.
Your grandfather dies. You want to remember him. You have pictures, recordings, his ashes, his house and all of his old furniture and clothing. You want to live in his house, but once you move in, you realize that there is no place to put your things. All the room is taken up by your Grandfather's old stuff.
You could,
A: Turn the house into a museum and live on the street.
B: Throw everything away. Bulldoze the house and build a new one in it's place.
C: Give away your grandfather's stuff. Scatter his ashes at his favorite spot. And keep the pictures and recordings to remember him by.
Hint:
Nature is your dead grandfather.
As illustrated by the metaphor above, the best way to deal with the rotting corpse of nature is to preserve little snapshots, leaving plenty of room for needed development. These snapshots should be physical and represent a large segment of the biodiversity of the planet, (we might need it later and wish we had it). But we can't save everything and should not attempt to save everything. The pandas are probably going to die out. Every polar bear in the world will live in a zoo. I'm sorry. That's just the way it has to be.
Noah was God's only friend.
God told Noah he didn't like how things on Earth were going.
God said,
"I think I'm just going to wash everything out and start again from scratch."
Noah didn't think this was such a good idea.
Noah said,
"How about I save what you like about the Earth, and help you to rebuild it later."
God said,
"Well... I guess you can. If you really want to. But it's going to be a lot of work. I like the animals. Save as many as you can."
So Noah built an ark to save the life on Earth.
It was a lot more work than he thought it was going to be.
The animals starting showing up. Soon the ark was filled to capacity.
It started to rain.
As the Earth flooded, a male unicorn and a female unicorn suddenly arrived. They were late getting the message and took their sweet time traveling to the ark.
The unicorns called out to the builder of the ark,
"Hey Noah! Don't forget about us!"
Noah called back to the unicorns,
"Don't worry. I won't forget you!"
Then Noah locked the door of the ark, and the unicorns drowned.
But he never forgot them.
We're Noah, the Earth is the ark, and the unicorns are the plants and animals that will have to go extinct because there's just not enough room for them in the ark to survive. If we try to save every single one of them, we risk jeopardizing the whole mission.
If the animal kingdom were a foot-race, then we've won the race to culture. It could have been any animal, but instead it was us. Culture made us civilized. Civilization makes us the masters of the Earth. We are no longer free to be wild. We have responsibilities. Returning to live in the wild is something we can never do, even if we tried. There's just not that many places left that are wild.
We have replaced the wild with the artifacts of civilization. Buildings to protect us. Crops to feed us. That sort of thing. We will use our intelligence to organize the raw materials of the Earth into a shape beneficial to human survival. All wild plants and animals that cannot adapt to this intelligent use of the Earth will go extinct, and should go extinct.
There was once 4 billion passenger pigeons in North America. They used to fly in flocks a hundred miles wide. Then they met people with shotguns. Now there isn't even one in all the world. The passenger pigeon is extinct.
On the other hand, the rock pigeon is a very successful bird, expanding it's previously limited range to almost every city in the world. As humanity expands, the rock pigeon with expand right along with it, despite humans with shotguns.
As long as there are human beings, rock pigeons will never go extinct.
Likewise:
The dog will never go extinct.
The cat will never go extinct.
The cow will never go extinct.
The salmon will never go extinct
The apple, the orange, the corn, the wheat, the rice, the squirrel, the bunny, the chicken, the hog, the goat, the sheep, the horse, the camel, the donkey, the elephant, the chimpanzee, etc.
As long as humans live, those lucky animals that are pleasing to our hearts will never, ever go extinct. This is what I mean by everlasting life. We can't save every life-form, but the forms that are useful to us will never die. We will carry them to the ends of the Earth and then beyond. To the darkest recesses of the galaxy. To every galaxy in the universe. To every universe in existence.
Someday the Sun will die and therefore someday the Earth will die. It's a fact. But the children of the Sun and the Earth will never die. Life is the child. May Life live forever, and let us never forget where we came from.
Life will succeed where planets fail, but only if we all work together and live within a certain minimum and maximum standard. No one is so important as to deserve everything in the world. As it stands, today's world is one where a single person can be worth billions of dollars and another can't even afford to eat. wtf is wrong with us?
A maximum standard of living is needed. Ambition without end is a wasteful, stupid consequence of the present system. Let's dismantle this pyramid scheme and use its bricks to build a better home.
All income above the maximum should go to the common goal of preparing the infrastructure of Earth (and beyond) for every threat this hostile universe can throw at us. We already know a lot of ways life could be snuffed out and still we sit around, divert our attention, and do nothing meaningful about them. I don't know about you, but I do not want us to become a fossil for some future species to dig up and say, "Well, they failed". We've had enough time to twiddle our thumbs. Let's get to work.
We will clothe the naked Earth. Protection from the elements. We'll shield life from every danger in the universe. We'll use the power of negative thinking to make a list of everything that could possibly go wrong. We will think of ways we can protect ourselves from these events. We will implement our best options, cost be damned.
We will have the money to build what we need to survive thanks to the willing sacrifice of those with more than they will ever need. Do your worst, Universe, you mindless bastard, hostile to life! The will of the living and thinking being is far greater than any scenario that dirty fate can throw at us!
Did I just say, "willing sacrifice of those with more than they will ever need"? Yes, and I meant it. The rich and powerful will sacrifice much to save the Earth. They will deserve our thanks and praise. There will always be rich people. There will always be poor people. But the rich won't have a destructive monopoly on power and the poor will have their basic needs met.
"What if they refuse?"
We'll make them an offer they can't refuse. We should reform these social parasites if we can, but if they choose destruction, we must bring it and fast. We have no time to waste. Sorry "Daddy Warbucks", the hammer has come down. The contents of your vast piggy bank will benefit the world whether you like it or not.
A maximum and minimum for persons and business entities alike. Nothing will ever again be too big to fail, (except all of us working together).
If we can't accomplish this, we might as well kiss our children's future goodbye. We might as well not have any more children. Death is the easy choice. Life is the hardest choice there is. I will personally give up everything for the future of life. If you are unable to do so, I don't blame you. Not everyone can be strong enough to choose life.
The Earth is the womb of life. Someday we will have to be ready to leave the womb and finally be born. Birth is painful, but there is no true growth that is without some pain.
We are no longer children. It is time we stop acting like children. It is time to put away our toys. It is time to stop playing our games. We must let our old culture die, so that we may live to our full potential.
We are the protectors of life. Together nothing is impossible. All dangers will be neutralized. Anything that stands in our way will be defeated and absorbed.
Spread the word if you are willing. If you are not, stand out of our way.
This is the way forward. There is no other.
The foundational document of Millionarianism.
